You may want to try out a couple of trial rides with us before joining the club, again this is not a problem and you can read here how to go about that. Once you have decided to join we’d like you to fill out our membership form, there’s a link button on the right that will take you straight to it. We have a flat membership fee for everyone 16 to 70 of £25, which we hope you’ll agree is tremendous value? And if you are over 70 it is totally FREE, although for legal reasons we still need you to fill out a membership application.
We are very keen for both men and women to join the club and on the 2019 Tour of Flanders almost a 1/3 of the people going are women, so please do not think this is just a male environment – if you would like to speak to a woman member of the club to discuss joining again just speak to Ken and he will ask one of our women members to call you to discuss any questions you may have.
Once you have joined the club you’ll receive instructions on various things like the Club kit which as a new member you will receive a 50% discount on (we let you have it for less than the club pays!), where to meet for weekday and weekend rides, a FREE copy of the ‘Catford CC 2nd Fifty Years’ Hardback book, a bespoke membership card and much more. If you have any problems just give our membership secretary, Ken Thornton a quick call (his details are on the left) and he’ll answer any questions you may have and guide you through the membership process.
The Catford CC does not provide Third Party Insurance, but in the interests of safeguarding the club and its members against liability to third parties during club rides and club events, it is a condition of membership that all members MUST have Third Party liability Insurance. This can be obtained either through British Cycling or the CTC either by applying for full or affiliated membership. Alternatively please check your own existing policies such as household or motor to see if you are covered. We may have to see a copy of these to valiadte the insurance as ‘our club’ insurance only covers guests on the first 2 rides (while they decide if they wish to join).
To compete in Road and Track racing events you must have a licence and therefore be a member of British Cycling which carries their own third party insurance cover.
To compete in Club and Open events you must be a member of a club affiliated to Cycling Time Trials (CTT). The Catford CC is affiliated to CTT. This means that as a member of The Catford CC you will be covered by the CTT Insurance. The following is a relevant extract from the CTT Policy; In the absence of any other insurance policy the Cycling Time Trials Commercial Combined Policy provides, inter alia (amongst other things), an indemnity in the event of a claim against the Company (CTT) in respect of any rider or riders in an event falling under our jurisdiction. It also covers secretaries, timekeepers, marshals, observers and volunteer helpers used in any capacity required to make the event possible. The limit of the Public and Products liability is £10,000,000.

On reaching this point we assume that you have now joined the Catford cc and paid your membership fee? The Club membership secretary Ken Thornton should have contacted you now and welcomed you formerly to the club. You may well already know an existing Club member and so know about where we meet for our rides etc, but if not don’t worry just turn up at the below venue and introduce yourself to the Run(s) Leader and he will make you welcome and introduce you to a few people (not too many as we know how hard it is to remember names). If you have any questions please ask the Run Leader before we set off. You are now welcome to come on any of the Club organised rides, on Saturday and Sunday these are normally run from The Café@Farnbrough Village The Saturday ride, because of it’s shorter length, is normally to one of the local designated venues which are decided on by the Run Leader taking on board weather, if anyone has to get back early etc on the day. If in any doubt about where the ride goes from on a day just go the ‘News and Upcoming Events’ section on the home page and it will be posted where we are meeting that weekend. The Sunday rides are longer and more formalised and the venue will be posted here on the news section about the meet venue, distance, stopping points etc. We hope that you will now enjoy being a valued club member and join in with all the rides and social activities that the club organises throughout the year, to this end please visit the site from time to time to update yourself on any future information or events, which, if you have signed up for the Club EBlast will also alert you to these things.
Being a club with a long and proud history and where today’s members benefit from limited liability, we have written rules about how the club is governed and administered.
When you complete the membership application form you are applying to become a member of a company (limited by guarantee), Catford Cycling Club Limited and in the application you agree to be bound by its Articles of Association and Rules in place from time to time. This document is available as a download on the right. When you first join the club as a new member the Membership Secretary will contact you and, along with a few other things, will make sure that you have up-to-date copies of this document so you can be clear about what you are signing up to. Material Changes to these documents require the approval of members at a general meeting of the company (see the Articles of Association) so that you can have a say in the future.
If you wish to explore further you can contact one of the three members representatives who are listed under the Officers tab at the top of the website and are available to give help and advice to members.
We would hope, as a new member, you would embrace all things within the club, from riding, social and help in the running of the club, so if you feel that you can help by volunteering for a Board or Officer position please speak to any of the existing Board Directors about standing for one of the positions in the club.
