Every year the club organises an Annual Tour of France/Belgium, this takes place in August and lasts for 5 days. It runs from a Tuesday or Wednesday night returning on Sunday or Monday, we meet at the Premier Inn at Dover, so we can catch the early ferry on the following day.
The following days have very organised rides and we stay in good quality hotels, often in the village Ooustduinkerke, Belgium, in 2019 we even stayed in a Chateau in St. Omer! The trip then takes rides out from the hotel, eg Brugge, Ypres etc on organised rides with lunch at half-way points.
Evening meals are at very good quality pre-arranged venues. The party is restricted to 34 people and the event starts booking in late January for that coming year, it fills up VERY quickly and we start collecting monthly instalments from Jan onwards, the trip has to be paid for in advance as we have so many places we have to book in advance and pay deposits etc. The cost covers ALL expenses: Ferry, Van ins, Petrol, Accommodation, Meals, Drinks etc - In fact it is possible to turn up in Dover and you would not have to have any other money with you if you did not want to.
Recommendations for this trip can be easily had from many club members, there is also a traditional contingent of riders that are 'old members' or very good friends that also come - and they are always welcomed on the trip. The trip is open to all and we would positively encourage women to come, on the 2018 trip there were 7 ladies!
The trip is by invitation only to make sure that the format and feel of the trip remains the same which has taken over 30 years to perfect, please contact Mike Morgan by email here before the end of Jan - the cost of the trip will be decided in Jan and we will inform the riders going of the monthly collection cost.
Keep an eye out for information in the club monthly e-blast
"The Tour of Flanders (the "Trip") is a friend's trip and not a company sponsored event, no insurance cover has been arranged by the company to cover the Trip. By participating in the Trip each participant acknowledges that they will be in the same position as if they were on a private excursion arranged by and for themselves. Each participant undertakes that they have arranged, and are covered by their own personal 3rd party liability insurance which extends to the activities they will participate in and the geographies covered whilst on the Trip. In addition personal medical insurance and at least an EHIC card is highly recommended along with such other insurances they require to cover themselves for the risks associated with their participation in the Trip. There is no obligation on behalf of the organisers or any official to verify that a participant is in compliance with their insurance undertaking or to verify that the level of insurance cover is adequate. Participants acknowledge that: 1. they are participating in the Trip entirely at their own risk; 2. that they will at all times be responsible for their own actions; 3. that no liability of any nature whatsoever is accepted by or attaches to the company and any of the people involved in the planning, organisation, day to day coordination, ride leadership and administration of the Trip."
